PERMANENT
ARTIST BIO
Permanent is the solo electronic project of Mimi Luse, currently based out of Richmond, Virginia. Since its inception in 2020, Luse has worked through a constantly unfolding exploration of genre techniques; from the wave electronics-influenced pieces of her debut cassette Social Disease, to the energetic industrial basement techno of 2022’s vinyl EP Hunger or Nausea (Modern Tapes), which was marked by overdriven, rhythmically complex compositions, complete with a final track based around a sample made from a melted Janet Jackson record.
In 2022 she also released Museum AO (Hot Releases) which saw her exploring brutal minimalism by processing heavy beat explorations through a single multi-effects pedal setting, with direct and powerful results.
The throughline between these different approaches has been the combination of hardware and creative manipulation of found sound, lending a compelling quality to her productions. Unreleased tracks attesting to the breadth of her sound, from pop to noise, can be heard on a variety of benefit compilations found online, including Women Invented Noise Vol. II , released by the UK label Industrial Coast.
